Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
